UPDATE RE: H1N1 Virus [Swine flu]

Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler spoke with Chief David McDougall of St. Theresa Point First Nation, Manitoba this afternoon and Chief McDougall has confirmed that his community has two confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus. Chief McDougall has stated that there are at least a dozen more individuals that are being tested but have not yet received the results from these tests. Chief McDougall is meeting with health officials from the Manitoba Provincial Ministry of Health and Manitoba Health Canada in Winnipeg to ensure the safety of his community members and to keep this situation contained.

 



Your Nurse at the nursing station is a source of information related to the H1N1 virus as First Nations & Inuit Health and Health Canada provide your nurse with updated information on a regular basis. As well, Surabhi Patel-Widmeyer, Health Emergency Co-ordinator for First Nations & Inuit Health, Ontario Region is also aware of current issues related to the H1N1 virus.
