NAN OFFERS CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING PASSING OF NAPS OFFICER
THUNDER BAY (December 19, 2016): Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler, on behalf of the Executive Council, expressed condolences to the family, friends and officers of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service following the passing of Const. Ronald Santos over the weekend:
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Const. Ronald Santos and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and the communities in which he served at this difficult time. Const. Santos was widely respected for his enthusiasm and commitment to policing, and is remembered as a dedicated and reliable officer who could always be counted on to do his best. We hope his family and many friends can take some comfort knowing that he is fondly remembered for his dedication and exemplary service. This loss is especially painful during the Christmas season and we will give special thanks this year for the service of Const. Santos and all of the NAPS officers and civilian members who work so hard to serve and protect our First Nation communities with pride and distinction under challenging very circumstances.”
Ronald Santos, 40, passed away peacefully on Saturday at the Timmins and District Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his parents, girlfriend and two sons.
Born in the Philippines, Const. Santos trained at the Police Foundations Program in South Porcupine before joining the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service in 2008. Const. Santos served in Kashachewan, Mattagami and Constance Lake First Nation.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Miron-Wilson Funeral Home, 150 Balsam Street South, Timmins, with reception to follow. Visitation will family will be held Wednesday from 12 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home.
