BIOGRAPHY
Terry Waboose was re-elected as Deputy Grand Chief on Aug. 12, 2009.
Terry is a member of Eabametoong First Nation. He was raised in Miminiska, approximately 35 miles upstream from Eabametoong along the Albany River, and attended public school in Sioux Lookout. As a youngster, he was instilled with a deep appreciation for the wealth and gifts of the land from his parents and grandparents. Those early teachings on hunting, fishing, trapping and living off the land remain a large part of his life.
Terry was first elected to the Executive Council in 2006 following seven years of service with NAN in a variety of positions, including NAN’s first Director of Governance Secretariat.
Terry is dedicated to improving the quality of life in NAN First Nations by addressing social issues, increasing access to quality education, and improving living conditions to help build stronger, healthier communities for the people of Nishnawbe Aski. In his second term as Deputy Grand Chief, he will continue to focus on his portfolio responsibilities of education and social services.
Prior to NAN, Terry administered mining agreements and worked on forestry issues as Resource Development Coordinator during his seven years at Windigo First Nations Council. In addition, he has extensive experience in economic development and tourism, and served as a policy analyst at Matawa First Nations Management.
Terry resides in Thunder Bay with his spouse Sarah and their two children.
