NAN's Finance Department

The Finance Department is responsible for payment, payroll and receivable processing, internal control management and financial reporting for the political activities and program services facilitated by Nishnawbe Aski Nation. The Finance Department strives to be a First Nations fiscal role model and, in so doing, we endeavour to establish and maintain modern, efficient bookkeeping and reporting practices. Some financial initiatives currently underway include:

  • Transparent and accessible annual reporting to Member First Nations by publishing information on our web site (see financial reporting) and in Wawatay News.
  • Streamlining and improving procedures, practices and internal controls to meet changing demands.
  • Expanding electronic deposit services for all First Nation allocations
  • Developing growth and career opportunities for First Nations employees in the area of financial administration.

With the Grand Chief and Executive Director, Finance reports quarterly to the Chiefs’ Finance Committee which is responsible for steering financial policy and development in accordance with the vision of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Chiefs. Our collective goal is to ensure that we are financially responsible, transparent and accountable to our Members
