First Nation LifeLong Learning

The First Nation Life Long Learning Table Engagement (FNLLT) will be held at the Airlane Hotel & Conference Centre on June 12 & 13. The FNLLT is to ensure the recommendations, suggestions and concerns provided by First Nations are carefully reflected in the design, delivery, implementation and analysis/evaluation processes of an education strategy that builds effective programs and services for First Nation students and communities in the provincial education system.

Priority Focus Areas:

Languages and Culture

Focus Area A – Languages Strategy. The objectives are; development, implementation and evaluation of a Languages Strategy that results in increased access to quality Indigenous languages programming for First Nation learners along the lifelong learning continuum.

Focus Area B – Indigenous Languages Instructors Strategy. The objectives are; development, implementation and evaluation of an Indigenous Languages Instructors Strategy that results in increased access to quality Indigenous languages programming for First Nation learners along the lifelong learning continuum.

Focus Area C – Languages Resources. The objectives are; ensure required and appropriate
Indigenous Languages resources are available and accessible to support Indigenous Languages
Instructors and Indigenous Languages Programming along the lifelong learning continuum.


Policy Development
Focus Area A – Classification of First Nation Schools (K-12 specific). The objectives are;
collaborative exploration of the possibility of creating a new classification for First Nation/federally
operated schools.

Focus Area B- Languages Immersion Programs. The objectives are; collaborative exploration of the
possibility of creating space for Indigenous Immersion Languages programming in First
Nation/federally operated schools and the provincially funded education system.

Focus Area C – Education Services Agreements, Articulation Agreements and Student Funding. The
objectives are; to review the legislation and policies that guide the use of funding provision to
support the needs of First Nation learners and make recommendations on improvements.
