NAN CHALLENGES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S POSITION ON MISSING & MURDERED ABORIGINAL WOMEN

THUNDER BAY (June 10, 2014): Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) is challenging federal Justice Minister Peter MacKay’s justification for refusing to call a national inquiry into murdered and missing Aboriginal women. According to NAN Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler, Minister MacKay showcased a complete disregard for Aboriginal interests in his May 16 statement following the release of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report, Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women: A National Operational Overview.
