NAN MEETS CHALLENGE, WILL DONATE TO FOREST FIRE RELIEF EFFORTS

THUNDER BAY, ON (May 9, 2016): Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) will meet a challenge issued by Chief and Council of Mattagami First Nation by donating to assist with relief efforts for those affected by the devastating forest fire in northern Alberta.

“We will meet the challenge issued by Mattagami First Nation and are pleased to contribute to relief efforts being offered from across the country. We will stand with our brothers and sisters to the west who have reached out with generous offers of support including Fort McKay First Nation, which is housing evacuees forced to flee their homes, and Enoch Cree Nation, which has provided free gasoline to many people travelling away from the fire-ravaged city. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Fort McMurray and all those who have been displaced or otherwise affected by this devastating inferno,” said NAN Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler.

Mattagami First Nation has donated $1,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to assist with relief efforts and has issued a challenge to other First Nation organizations to match their contribution.

Donations to the Alberta Fires Emergency Appeal can be made at:
