NAN SUBMITS ALTERNATIVE REPORT TO UN FOR ITS REVIEW OF CANADA’S HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD AFTER CANADA FAILS TO CONSULT WITH INDIGENOUS ORGANIZATIONS

THUNDER BAY, ON: Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) has submitted its own alternative report to the United Nations (UN) on Canada’s record of combating discrimination, after Canada failed to consult with Indigenous peoples and human rights organizations when producing its report.

Canada’s record on combating discrimination will be reviewed by a high level body of the UN in Geneva, Switzerland February 22 and 23, 2012 and though it is required to consult with Indigenous organizations before making their reports, it was submitted without consultation or the involvement of Indigenous peoples and human rights organizations.
