The NAN/Canada Treaty Discussion Forum was launched by Nishnawbe-Aski Nation and Canada in May 2003 to bring together Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Canada along with Ontario. The TDF was to begin discussions on treaty #5 and Treaty #9 in Ontario and other issues related to these treaties but Ontario has not been at the Treaty table since it began. A further objective of the forum is to develop a public education program aimed at raising awareness of treaties and treaty issues among aboriginal and non-aboriginal people in Canada, Ontario and the NAN territory. The Treaty Discussion Forum is also there to assist in commemoration activities for treaty #5 and treaty #9 first nations. The Treaty Discussion Forum is currently active in on-going oral research of Treaty #5.
The Treaty Discussion Forum consists of two groups:
