When the Government of Ontario announced its proposal to harmonize the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the provincial sales tax (PST) in its 2009 budget it was presented as a “comprehensive tax reform package” that would bring permanent tax relief for the people of Ontario over the next several years. But the reality, in fact, is that the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) may breach the First Nation right to tax exemption and stands to place an unprecedented and unfair burden of debt on First Nation people.

NAN UPSET OVER MTO’S PLANNED BRIDGE CLOSURES
