STATEMENT FROM NAN GRAND CHIEF

THUNDER BAY, ON (September 20, 2016): Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler has released the following statement after today’s announcement that he will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree (LLD) at the Toronto Call to the Bar ceremony:

“I am honoured to be recognized by the Law Society of Upper Canada and I look forward to addressing these newly called lawyers, including the inaugural class from Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. I am proud of our achievements creating access and accountability for First Nations in the justice system, and I share this honour with all NAN leaders and everyone who has contributed over the years in many meaningful ways.”


Grand Chief Fiddler will deliver an address during the Call to the Bar ceremony on Friday September 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. The Grand Chief will be accompanied by his wife Tesa, friends and family members.
