Phase I & II Gambling Counsellor's
Certification Training

We are fortunate to have ongoing training endorsed by the
Canadian Council of Professional Certification.  Although both
phases have compulsory modules, Nishnawbe Aski Nation assisted
with content development for the training module components to
best meet the needs of communities and staff.

This training provides a "hands on" approach to counselling.  At the
request of community staff this training reinforces counselling skills,
prevention, intervention and treatment strategy.

Phase 1 (30 hours) - This phase is designed at the entry level. 
The information provided and the level of skills introduced are
designed to provide counsellors with background information on
gambling behaviors, levels of addiction, assessment models, impact
on families, community and the workplace, etc.

  5. Ethics and Professional Responsibility

Phase II (30 hours) - is designed as a more advanced level.  Level
2 will include approaches to work with problem gamblers,
development of recovery plans, financial management, relapse
prevention and group process, etc.
