Nishnawbe Aski Nation is a political territorial organization representing 49 First Nation communities within northern Ontario. It represents the legitimate, socioeconomic, and political aspirations of its First Nation members of Northern Ontario to all levels of government in order to allow local self-determination while establishing spiritual, cultural, social, and economic independence.

Deputy Grand Chief Achneepineskum opened the gathering with an opening address.
“This week we will be talking about issues affecting our women. We’ll be hearing from women with lived experiences and experts in their fields.

26 children since the beginning of December are orphans due to unnatural deaths such as suicide and overdose. We need to stand together and support each other.

The theme for this gathering is ‘Strengthening Our Sisterhood’. We must always remember this.”
